Right on Track.

Right on Track.

It’s easy to assume that things go right, things go wrong. Sometimes you rise, sometimes you fall. But if we observe the world objectively, we may see it’s perfection. How trees make energy via photosynthesis; how a single cell divides and differentiates to become a functioning, self-aware animal. It’s quite possible the what we see as “mistake” is simply our limited awareness. If we assume that maybe, just maybe, everything is as it should be, we have a chance to observe and maybe even witness the perfection that was there all along. If we do that, however, we have to also assume that every event leading to this moment…was right on track as well.

Frequency, Vibration and Cycles

Frequency, Vibration and Cycles

Reality is comprised of frequencies, vibrations, and cycles. Frequencies can be high and light, or dark and heavy. Vibrations can fast and light, or slow and dense. Cycles are the closest our minds can come to grasping eternity; no start, no stop. No beginning, no end. Everything is in a state of change, and yet cycles can be “good” or “Bad”, “heavy” or “light”, and they can be self perpetuating, like a feedback loop…like a rut you’re stuck in. The way out is to see the cycle, from the outside in…

Silently Face the Storm

Silently Face the Storm

Achieving a Black Belt in Martial Arts is often interpreted as mastery. This is a common misconception. While a worthwhile pursuit on the Martial path, it is important to remember that the Black Belt student is someone who has gained proficiency in the basics of physical technique; far from Mastery.

We often are drawn to Martial Art because we feel physically victimized, or perhaps vulnerable. It seems that the goal then is to become more physically adept, more likely to be victorious in physical battle. As we enter “Martial Middle Age”, we find that there will always be someone faster, always someone slower. Always someone stronger, always someone weaker. At this stage it is easy to wonder: “Have I gone anywhere, or am I still in the same spot, stuck in the middle and going nowhere?”
It is at this stage that most abandon the Martial Way.

As we move along, and the shadows of our lives grow longer, some stay the course and gain the insight that It was never about being stronger, harder, or faster…because no punch can knock out cancer. no kick can assuage the pain of losing a loved one. Martial arts is not about blustering up a storm of physical prowess; its about being able to stand right here, right now, facing the storms of your life. Being still, being silent, being perceptive and therefore able to act in the right way, with the right action and perfect timing. Or perhaps not act at all.
This means being willing to silently face the storm, and act from silence, rather than react from noise.
This…is Martial mastery.

The 18th Victim.

The 18th Victim.

It is truly inspiring to see our young citizens making a stand to end school violence. A mass collective, they unify to give voice to the lawmakers, the adults; “We will not stand to live in fear one more day.” But let’s not forget, there is an 18th victim here. A victim that no one united to support. No one came to his aid, and said “I’ve got your back”. Not even when he cried out for help. It’s easy to say “it’s the gun laws that are at fault.” “The FBI dropped the ball”. No, we dropped the ball…all of us. When you were alone, and frightened, where was your backup, your army?

This is a good start, but we shouldn’t unify our voice about what we’re against; gasoline never put out a fire. We should be reminded of the words of Mother Theresa, who said “What you’re against weakens you, and what you are for empowers you.”
I am For the end of the violence.
I am for the easing of the pain of the families that lost so much.
I am an army that stands at your side, and will not leave, and knows you didn’t ask for this.
I am not afraid, and I stand for the victims.
I am not afraid to say…I stand for the 18th victim as well.

Opinions and Interpretations.

Opinions and Interpretations.

It’s so easy to believe that our opinions of life and events are simply a descriptive fact- analyzing, categorizing, and labeling life’s moments. In fact, our opinions are NOT fact, nor are they the thing that they are supposed to be describing. They are opinions…INTERPRETATIONS of events, and the only thing that makes them real is us believing that they are fact itself. Peel back the wrapping to see the hidden truth inside…

The Legacy

The Legacy

We spend all of our time striving, competing, trying to accumulate and win the game. Some of us have moved beyond this and do what makes us happy. In the end, however, the only thing that endures is the memory of us in others, and the memory of how we weathered the storms of our lives. So, hunker down, or get back up…your story is yet to be told.

Adaptation.

Adaptation.

What would it say about you, if you could not be offended, no matter what anyone said; if you remained calm in the face of any storm, and you simply attempted quiet adaptation to any situation? What then, does it say about our culture when we are offended at the slightest suggestion that differs from our own, that we are so enraged at what someone did that we have to verbally attack them via an innocuous bird chirp, and that, when all is said and done, if the world would simply stop being as it is and be what we think it should be…then we could be happy.

What does that say about us?

You Get What You Give.

You Get What You Give.

The concept of flow is often overlooked, or misunderstood.
If you want kindness, give kindness away.
If you want abundance, give some of yours away.

We so often think in linear terms; that once we part with something, we think it’s gone forever.
The true nature of existence is cyclical; what you send out comes back. If you want happiness, it’s probably because you’re miserable, and that’s what you are sending out.

The cosmic mirror can only reflect back what you are giving, and show you who you are.
